Ben and Jerry are Mr. McLaughlin’s two Havanese dogs. They live at the office and serve as the office’s official Elder Law dog attorneys. Ben and Jerry understand what it is to be elderly, as they are both now thirteen years old. Their areas of expertise include greeting people at the door and begging for treats, which are always kept outside the front door for our clients and friends to hand out. As Havanese dogs, they are hypo-allergenic, and they do not shed!
Ben can be easily recognized by the white stripe on his head. He loves affection, and has been known to stand on his hind legs and beg for people to pet him. He is also very willing to lap sit if an invitation is offered. He is a calm, quiet, and submissive dog with a big heart.
Jerry has a darker coat, and a very different personality from his best friend Ben. He is more hyper and is full of energy. Like many Havanese dogs, Jerry loves heights and can often be found perched on top of the office chairs and sofas. Jerry has a big voice, and likes to bark hello at anyone passing by the window.
Ben and Jerry are very close, and have severe separation anxiety. If the conference room door is closed and one of the dogs is left out of the room, they will whine and bark until the door is opened and they are allowed to rejoin their pack. When Mr. McLaughlin leaves the office, Ben will sit transfixed, staring at the door, waiting for his master to return.
Both dogs are very friendly, and have a tendency to jump up on people. If they are told “Down” in a firm voice, they will usually obey. Our clients are always encouraged to let the staff know if the dogs are annoying them in any way- The client always comes first!
Ben and Jerry are invaluable members of the office team because of the love, comfort, and joy which they bring to all who interact with them. They look forward to meeting you!
